(Yale) – A St. Clair County man was expecting the worst, but got the best news of his life when his wife told him he’d won a $1.15 million Lotto 47 jackpot. Timothy McMurtrie, of Yale, matched the lotto numbers drawn March 4th to win the big prize. He just didn’t know it for several weeks. He pulled out a stack of lottery tickets after several weeks of purchasing them and had his wife check them.
He visited the Lottery’s website to confirm he’d won the big prize. McMurtrie visited Lottery headquarters Friday to claim his jackpot, choosing the onetime lump sum payment of about $730,000 rather than an annuity.
With his winnings, he plans to help his close family members, take a vacation, and then save the remainder.
