County considers tapping in to new water line

Representatives from the new water line from Lake Huron to Genesee County attended the Board of Public Works meeting Tuesday afternoon, proposing the County consider purchasing three units of useage, to serve a potential industrial customer. Board Chairman Greg Alexander explained the intent is there would be no cost to County taxpayers, rather the customer would foot the bill. One unit is estimated to cost $294,000.

Alexander said there are other opportunities to tap in to the system including Brown City and the Village of Peck.

He said for anyone to tap into the system, it would cost $1 million dollars per mile, or in the case of Peck, taxpayers would foot the $7 million dollar price tag to tap in to the system that runs along the county line on Fischer Road.

Alexander refused to name the potential Industrial company, saying details of an agreement needed to be worked out first before he could identify the potential water user. The new water line project in southern Sanilac County was completed last year.
