Lethal drug use a concern of Sanilac DTF agents

During his annual report to the Sanilac County Board of Commissioners, Drug Task Force Director Jim Johnson noted the agency responded to 266 separate complaints, an increase of the previous five year average of 188 annually. He told commissioners a growing concern throughout the county is the increased use of heroin mixed with the often lethal drug fentenal and carfentenal. Johnson said while they continue to monitor the illegal use of marijuana and other narcotics, the use of the lethal drugs and it’s potency is a top priority. According to DTF officials, Sanilac County had six drug overdose deaths with varying doses of heroin and either fentenal or carfentenal involved.

Johnson told commissioners nearly 100 Sanilac County students received counseling utilizing some $55,000 dollars in funding from DTF and the Sanilac County Health Department.

He said currently, county-wide, there are 594 registered marijuana cardholders who are allowed to have 12 plants at their homes and 197 registered caregivers who are allowed to legally have 72 plants each.
