Area bowlers earned honors this past weekend, earning trips to the state finals. The Sandusky boys team, no stronger to post season success in the past several years, earned their place in the Finals with a second place finish in the team regionals at Bay City Lanes last weekend. St. Charles won the event with a total of 4003 pins while the Redskins piled up 3793. Unionville-Sebewaing was third with 3737 pins and Bad Axe was fourth with 3421 pins. The top three teams advance in the tournament. In girls team action, Unionville-Sebewaing edge Sandusky by just 63 pins for the third and final spot. The Patriots rolled up 2940 pins while the Lady Redskins had 2877. Brown City was fifth.
In the regional Individuals, the Sandusky duo of Cody Johnston and Jared Jagotka earned a spot in the Finals, placing in the top 10. Johnston tied for third place with 1177 pins while Jagotka was eighth with 1105 pins. On the girls side, Melissa Steinbus of Bad Axe was the regional winner while Courtney Wheeler of Brown City was sixth and Ashley Tostige of Sandusky was seventh. Sandusky’s Erica Jones nearly qualified, being edged out by just one pin by North Huron’s Ashley Koglin.
