Teen home alone during home invasion in Lapeer County

(LAPEER COUNTY) — Authorities are investigating a home invasion that took place Friday, July 15 at 2 p.m. in the 100 block of W. Barnes Lake Road in Columbiaville. The home is located about a quarter of a mile west of M-24. Lapeer County Sheriff’s deputies say a 16-year old girl was home alone at the time when she saw a red SUV enter the driveway and the driver approach the front door. After ringing the doorbell with no response, the man walked behind the house to a glass sliding patio door. He then returned to his vehicle and backed it up toward the house. Deputies say the man then walked into the house through the patio door and found the girl inside one of the bedrooms. The intruder asked her if a certain individual lived at the residence. When she said no, the man left the home. The girl was not harmed and nothing was taken. Deputies say the intruder was described as a black man in his 20’s or 30’s with a stocky build and clean shaven. He was driving a red SUV. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Lapeer County Sheriff’s Department or their tip line at 810-245-1374.
