(PORT AUSTIN) — Authorities say an Ann Arbor man has died after a kayaking accident in Lake Huron. 42-year-old Christopher Peterson was kayaking Sunday afternoon near Port Austin with his wife and their two sons, ages 5 and 8, when their kayak started taking on water. The family had set out from Eagle Bay at the northern tip of Michigan’s Thumb and was about one-quarter mile east of Turnip Rock when the kayak sunk. Robert Hobkirk, Michigan Department of Natural Resources officer for Huron County, says the adults weren’t wearing life jackets. Peterson’s body was found by a private boater. His wife and the older boy were rescued by a private boat and the 5-year-old was rescued nearby.
