(LAPEER COUNTY) — A 38-year-old Genesee County man has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly shooting a man inside a Lapeer County home early Saturday morning. Sheriff Ron Kalanquin says the shooting took place inside an Elba Township home around 12:30 a.m. The suspect, Deonte McCoy, was arrested a short time after the incident. The victim was shot in the chest and was listed in critical condition over the weekend. McCoy, who has a history of drug charges, now faces several new charges including attempted murder, felon in possession of a firearm, possession of narcotics, and 4th offense habitual offender. He remains jailed in Lapeer County on a $250,000 bond. Reports say McCoy was on parole at the time of the crime, after being released from prison in 2015.
