Sanilac County Community Foundation Scholarships Awards to Marlette Grads

(AREA) — The Sanilac County Community Foundation has announced another round of scholarships awarded to Thumb-area graduated seniors. Alexis LaVell, a Marlette High School graduate, earned the Edward Huntoon Memorial Scholarship and Lee and Thelma Flannigan Scholarship. Alexis was a member of student council and national honor society. Along with participating in athletics, she competed in Business Professionals of America and was a crew member for the Marlette High School Drama Club. Alexis plans to attend Alma College in the fall. The Edward Huntoon Scholarship was established by his family in 2009. Mr. Huntoon was an active businessman in the Marlette community and was committed to the importance of education. The Lee and Thelma Flannigan Scholarship was established to assist Marlette High School graduates who desire to further their education.
The Mike Stevens Scholarship recipient is Marlette graduate Jessica Ruckman. Jessica took part in Health Occupations Students of America while participating in athletics and serving her community through various organizations. She plans to attend Oakland University to study nursing. The Mike Stevens Scholarship was established in Mike’s memory in 2005 by his family and co-workers at the Sanilac County Department of Human Services.
