(VASSAR TOWNSHIP) — A 61-year old Vassar Township man was killed in a fire Tuesday afternoon at a home on Scotch Road. Tuscola County Undersheriff Glen Skrent says a deputy and Vassar officer arrived on the scene just after 3:30 p.m. and found an enclosed trailer on fire next to the house. The officers pulled the victim trapped under the trailer to safety. They started CPR in an attempt to revive the man, who was badly burned. Additional emergency crews responded and the man was pronounced dead at the scene. Undersheriff Skrent says Deputy Cory Jacobs and Officer Jodi Grant received minor burns and were treated at the scene. The Vassar Fire Department was assisted by Mayville Fire in battling the blaze. Detectives believe the victim was using a torch on the trailer and may have had a medical issue, which led to the fire. An autopsy is scheduled. The incident remains under investigation.
