(AREA) — Former state Sen. Alan Sanborn has officially filed to be a candidate for the U.S. House seat being vacated by Republican Congresswoman Candice Miller. The 58-year-old Republican from Macomb County’s Richmond Township says in a statement his campaign will focus on core conservative issues, including preserving family values, lowering taxes and eliminating spending waste and defending the nation’s borders. Reports say that the other Republicans who have filed include State Representative Anthony Forlini of Macomb County’s Harrison Township, retired businessman Paul Mitchell of Dryden in Lapeer County, and State Senator Phil Pavlov of St. Clair. No Democrats have filed yet. The deadline is April 19 for the August 2 primary ballot. The 10th Congressional District covers most of northern Macomb County, and all of Huron, Lapeer, St. Clair and Sanilac counties.
