(ELKTON) — A wind turbine has partially fallen down in the Thumb. No injuries were reported after a portion of the turbine that included the blades, fell Thursday morning near Elkton in Huron County. Sheriff Kelly Hanson says the downed turbine was located on Gagetown Road, north of Richardson Road in Oliver Township. Wind Park management from Exelon Generation were on the scene and following protocol, shut down that section of the wind park. Witnesses claimed to have heard a loud noise around 5 a.m. Thursday. That section of the wind park will be shut down untl company officials can determine that the structural failure is isolated and it’s safe to return other turbines back into service. There was no immediate word about what caused the turbine to fall. The area saw high winds and heavy snow during the storm that started Wednesday. Oliver Township Planning Commission Chairman Brion Dickens says the turbine is located among others in a field and no other damage was apparent.
