(SANDUSKY) — An 89-year old Sandusky woman was hit by a car while crossing South Elk Street Wednesday evening and passed away from her injuries Thursday morning. Sandusky Police Chief Brett Lester says the incident happened just after 5 p.m. Wednesday when Margaret Mezo crossed the street in front of Ace Hardware to the west. Lester says she stopped in the middle of the street and then continued into the path of a southbound vehicle driven by 20-year old Tyler Manns of Croswell. Mezo was taken to McKenzie Health System and later transferred by ambulance to Covenant Hospital in Saginaw where she passed away from her injuries Thursday morning. Manns was not injured. Chief Lester says neither speed nor alcohol were factors in the crash, which remains under investigation.
