(SANILAC COUNTY) – Cady Wallace of Sanilac County was among thirty-five 4-H youth from 18 counties across Michigan to participate in the 2017 Michigan State Fair Judging Contest in September. Wallace was a fourth place winner in the Intermediate Division for judging livestock. Participants judged two classes each of beef, sheep and swine. Other local winners included Caiden Parker (third place) of Tuscola County in the Junior Division, third and Adrianna Jackson also of Tuscola County who earned a second place finish in the Senior Division.

(LAPEER COUNTY) – Police and citizens are keeping an eye out for further vandalism to the Poly Ann Trail in Imlay City. The popular destination has been hit recently by vandals drawing vulgar grafetti on the walls of the railroad tunnel and police are determined to catch the culprits. While high-quality, motion-sensored game cameras have been installed, local volunteer church groups have been painting walls and doing landscape work to make the area safer. The city has also paid DTE to install lights in the area.

(LAPEER COUNTY) – Residents in the City of Lapeer will be going to the polls next week and among the ballot issues is a six-year 2 mill question for further road improvements. Road repairs throughout town have been on-going this year and the city is hoping to continue that work with a projected three million dollar increase to the street fund, if the millage is approved. City officials said a similar millage request failed in 2015.

(HURON COUNTY) – voters will be going to the polls in Huron County next week, deciding the fates of ballot questions, city offices and a school bonding issue. Among the races is one in Caseville where five people are running for three open seats. Caseville voters will also be deciding on a 2-mill increase for five years for street repair, raising an estimated $74,211. North Huron Schools are seeking 2.15 mills in 2018, with a maximum 12-year bond. If approved, funds would be used for building and equipment improvements including technology.

(SANILAC COUNTY) – More than eight pounds of prescription pills were dropped off at the Sanilac County Sheriff’s Office over the weekend. Authorities said in the last several months, 98 pounds have been discarded including 90 pounds of medicine that was either dropped off throughout the year, or picked up at homes by Drug task Force officers. Sheriff officials said the removal of these expired or no longer needed medications prevents use by those whom they were not prescribed for.

(SANILAC COUNTY) – An 81-year old Croswell man sustained injuries in a two-vehicle accident late Monday evening. According to the Sanilac County sheriff department, Carl Olsen drove in to the back end of a semi-truck driven by 30-year old Justin Kritzman of Sandusky around 10:30 p.m.. Deputies said Kritzman was eastbound on M-46 and stopped to make a turn north on to Ruth Road, Olsen did not see the truck stopped. Kritzman told deputies he was passed on the right by an unknown vehicle, prior to being rear ended. Olsen was transported to McKenzie Hospital while Kritzman was not injured. Seatbelts were being worn by both drivers. Deputies were assisted by Sanilac EMS and Carsonville Fire Department.

(ST. CLAIR COUNTY) – A 44-year-old Kimball Township man was hospitalized after a felonious assault Monday evening. According to the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office, the man was seriously injured and treated at McLaren Port Huron hospital before being transferred to McLaren Macomb in Mount Clemens. The assault happened on Lapeer Road in Kimball Township and deputies are now looking for a suspect described as a clean-shaven man in his mid-40s of Middle Eastern descent with salt and pepper hair who was riding a bicycle. Anyone who has seen someone matching the description in the Wadhams and Port Huron Township areas should call police at (810) 987-1726. The incident remains under investigation.
