Area fugitive wanted for assault with intent to murder

(LAPEER COUNTY) -- Authorities are searching for a Mayville man accused of assaulting his ex-girlfriend's new boyfriend. Lapeer County Sheriff's deputies say 24-year old Jesse James Carey placed a tree across Marlette Road near Maple Grove Road in Lapeer County's Rich Township Sunday afternoon. Carey's former girlfriend, a 23-year old Fostoria resident, was traveling in that area with her current boyfriend, a 24-year old Silverwood resident. Authorities say that when the couple stopped their vehicle to move the tree, Carey allegedly ambushed the Silverwood man, striking him multiple times with an object. Carey fled on foot after the attack. The Silverwood man was taken to Marlette Regional Hospital and later transferred to Covenant Hospital in Saginaw. As of Tuesday, he was still on life support. Deputies believe Carey is in the Mayville or Marlette area. He is wanted for assault with intent to murder. Carey is also wanted out of Tuscola County for resisting and obstruction. The Michigan State Police Lapeer Post has an active warrant against him for assault harm less than murder. Anyone with information on Carey's whereabouts is asked to call 9-1-1 immediately.
