The Sanilac County Historical Society recently received a grant from the Sanilac Consortium for the Arts in the amount of $250.00.  Historical Society administrator, Dawn Malek, says “We are very grateful to the Sanilac Consortium for the Arts for their support.  This funding will cover the costs of 25 wooden, ready to paint birdhouses and 25 paint kits.  ALL third grade students in the county are invited to participate in a contest to receive a birdhouse/paint kit et.  Our hope is that once the students complete their art project, they’ll return their birdhouse to the museum.  Then the birdhouses will be hung along the nature trail portion of our new one-mile walking path.”

The contest is open to all Sanilac County third grade students, either through their school, or individually.

The rules of the contest are as follows:

Choose and research a Michigan Bird, Share why you chose the bird, Share two true facts and one made-up fact about your bird, Draw, Color, or paint a picture of your bird, Include student’s name, age, school, teacher, and teacher’s email address and/or phone number (or parent’s, if student is participating individually).

25 lucky winners will be chosen to receive a birdhouse/paint kit.  Winners will be chosen based on originality, creativity, spelling, grammar, and following directions.  The contest runs from February 1 – March 1, and winners will be notified through their teacher by March 30th.

Sanilac Consortium for the Arts supports the development of skills and talents in the performing and fine arts, and helps provide opportunities to display those talents in Sanilac County.
