The Orphan Train Saga Lecture & Book Signing

October 13, 2019 @ 3:00 pm

The Orphan Train Saga Lecture & Book Signing by Sherry A. Burton will take place on Sunday, October 14th at 3 pm in the historic church at the Sanilac Historic Village & Museum. DOORS WILL OPEN 30 MINUTES BEFORE THE EVENT.

Refreshments will be provided by Raymond Hardware.

Between 1854 and 1925, over 250,000 orphaned children were shipped west from New York and Boston via trains. Some of these “orphan” children lived on the streets of New York City, some lived in asylums, and some were not true orphans at all.  250,000 children from newborn to teens, rode what we now know as the orphan trains in hopes of finding new homes.  Some of the children went on to have grand lives, others did not.

Join local author Sherry A. Burton as she shares her knowledge of the Orphan Trains and shares stories of the children who rode the trains.  Sherry’s goal is to keep those children’s memories alive through a mix of 18 historical fiction novels she has titled The Orphan Train Saga.  Sherry will be signing the first two books in the saga following her orphan train presentation.
