AUBURN HILLS, Mich. (AP) - Comerica Bank is offering two $10,000 grants to high school baseball or softball teams to help create, expand or improve programs. It's the fourth consecutive year for the Grand Slam Grant program. Plans for this year's grants recently were announced at Comerica's Auburn Hills office during the Detroit Tigers' winter caravan. Comerica plans to award the grants to one public high school from southeast Michigan and another in the central or West Michigan region. The grant recipients will be recognized on the field at Comerica Park prior to the Detroit Tigers game April 5 against the Baltimore Orioles. In addition to the grant, each winning school will also get game tickets. The application deadline is Feb. 7. Details are posted online.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - No. 15 Iowa has been waiting a long time for a game as big as Tuesday's home showdown with seventh-ranked Michigan State. The Hawkeyes (16-4, 5-2) are third in Big Ten behind Michigan State and Michigan, and a win would go a long way toward keeping their Big Ten title hopes alive. Iowa can also tie the Carver-Hawkeye Arena record with its 21st straight home win and avenge a loss to Michigan State in last year's Big Ten tournament. The Spartans (18-2, 7-1 Big Ten) saw their unbeaten league run snapped with a 77-70 loss to the Wolverines on Saturday. But Iowa coach Fran McCaffery says any Big Ten hoping to win the league title has to go through Michigan State. Tip off tonight at 7 p.m.

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - Peyton Manning is not interested in talking about where his career stands in football history. Not right now, anyway. Not when he's still playing. And certainly not less than a week from playing in the Super Bowl for the Denver Broncos. As collected and measured as he is while standing in a pocket, Manning coasted through the circus that is Media Day, opining on his family's favorite beer, politely evading silly questions about reality TV - and avoiding any wild pronouncements. The word "legacy" popped up repeatedly as the 37-year-old Manning, a four-time NFL MVP who broke records by throwing for 55 touchdowns and 5,477 yards this season, sat through his hour-long session Tuesday. Not surprisingly, Manning declined to take the bait.

DETROIT (AP) - Max Scherzer was ready for all the questions - and he doesn't seem to mind the fact that his contract status is such a big topic as spring training approaches. Scherzer was at Comerica Park on Thursday for the start of the Detroit Tigers' winter caravan. He recently agreed to a one-year, $15,525,000 deal with the Tigers, avoiding arbitration but leaving plenty of questions still unanswered about his future. Scherzer, last year's AL Cy Young Award winner, can become a free agent after this season. He says he has no problem fielding questions about his future now, before spring training starts. By the time opening day rolls around, though, he'll be focused on pitching.

Morgan back in spotlight for Michigan

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) - With star big man Mitch McGary injured, senior Jordan Morgan is back in the spotlight for 21st-ranked Michigan. Morgan has helped the Wolverines to an eight-game winning streak, and Michigan is unbeaten in conference play heading into Saturday night's showdown at No. 3 Michigan State. No doubt Morgan will be a big part of Michigan's preparation, from the standpoint of both on-court strategy and off-court leadership. He's an elder statesman on a team with several sophomores and freshmen playing important roles. He's also producing. During this eight-game streak - which has come without McGary - Morgan is shooting 82 percent from the field, averaging 8.3 points and 5.1 rebounds.

Michigan State loses Dawson to injury

EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) - No. 3 Michigan State will be without junior forward Branden Dawson for 4-5 weeks after he broke a bone in his right hand. Dawson says he was watching film from Thursday's narrow win over Indiana and became frustrated with how he has played lately. He says he slammed his hand against a table at one point, breaking the fifth metacarpal bone. Dawson is second in the Big Ten with 8.7 rebounds per game and the leader on offensive boards (3.1). Senior center Adreian Payne has also missed the last three games with a foot injury. The Spartans (18-1, 7-0 Big Ten) host No. 21 Michigan (14-4, 6-0) on Saturday in a showdown between the only tea ms without a Big Ten loss this season.

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) - Nik Stauskas scored 26 points, and No. 21 Michigan held off No. 10 Iowa 75-67 on Wednesday night to remain unbeaten in the Big Ten. The Wolverines (14-4, 6-0) have won eight straight to set up a showdown in East Lansing on Saturday night with rival Michigan State, the Big Ten's only other unbeaten team in conference play. Aaron White scored 14 of Iowa's points in a row down the stretch, but it wasn't enough to rally the Hawkeyes (15-4, 4-2) from an 11-point deficit. White and Melsahn Basabe scored 17 points each for Iowa. Glenn Robinson III had 14 points for Michigan and Jordan Morgan added 12. Third-ranked Michigan State (18-1, 7-0) will bring an 11-game winning streak into Saturday's game.

Bucks snap 9-game skid, beat Pistons 104-101

MILWAUKEE (AP) - Caron Butler scored eight of his 30 points in the fourth quarter and the Bucks rallied from a 13-point deficit in the third quarter to beat the Detroit Pistons 104-101 Wednesday night to snap a nine-game losing streak. Brandon Knight added 16 points against the team that traded him in the offseason, while backup center Miroslav Raduljica added eight points and eight rebounds off the bench. The Bucks trailed 76-63 in the third quarter, largely due to Brandon Jennings, who finished with 30 points. But Butler provided a boost with his jumper in the fourth before the Bucks held on late. Josh Smith missed two foul shots with about 5 seconds left, and Rodney Stuckey missed a desperation 3 at the buzzer to tie.
