ATLANTA (AP) - Usher will get to keep his kids. A judge in Atlanta has tossed an emergency request by Usher's ex-wife seeking temporary custody of the two children they had together. Tameka Foster Raymond sought the hearing one day after their 5-year-old son got caught in a pool drain. The judge said based on the evidence presented at the hearing, he wasn't sure anyone could have done anything to prevent the accident. But he also advised Usher to inform his ex where he is - and who is caring for the children. The child was in the care of an aunt when he fell to the bottom of the pool and got caught in the drain. Usher's ex claimed the singer was out of town when the accident took place, but his lawyer says he was nearby. After the hearing, Usher went over to his ex and gave her a long embrace.
UNDATED (AP) - Has she decided to leave the weave? Is it a reaction to her having her locks caught up in a fan during a show last month? Or, like, many women do, did Beyonce just decide to change things up a little - well, just because? Depends on who you ask when it comes to Beyonce's new hairdo. She now has a pixie cut. It's dyed blonde, with her brown roots still showing in spots. She's been showing off the new look on Instagram - and the "cut" has fans buzzing. Beyonce has had short hair in public before - but those were for movie roles. Fans on Instagram seem divided on the new look. Last month, while performing in Montreal, Beyonce got her extensions caught in the blades of a fan as she moved close to the audience. A crew member had to use a pair of scissors to get her free. She wasn't hurt, kept singing through the incident - and even joked about it later online.
SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) - A New York man charged with trying to extort money from embattled celebrity cook Paula Deen is scheduled to appear before a federal judge to change his plea. Thomas George Paculis was to appear Friday afternoon in U.S. District Court in Savannah, where he pleaded not guilty during his last hearing in July. Court records filed last week say 62-year-old Paculis of Newfield, N.Y., has signed a plea agreement with prosecutors. But details haven't been released. Prosecutors and Paculis' defense attorney have declined to comment. Authorities say Paculis contacted Deen's attorney threatening to reveal damaging statements by the former Food Network star unless she paid him $200,000. That happened after documents became public that showed Deen acknowledged using racial slurs in the past.

CLARKSTON, Mich. (AP) - The man charged with trying to break into Kid Rock's home on Saturday tried to play on the sympathy of the judge, but the judge wasn't having it. Forty-three-year-old Brian D. Keith of Independence Township, Michigan, was arraigned yesterday on felony charges of attempted home invasion and malicious destruction of property. Prosecutors say Keith is the man in surveillance photos ramming the gate and trying to break in while using crutches. Keith told Judge Joseph Fabrizio during his request for a low bond he has 15 screws and two plates in his knees. Fabrizio cited Keith's 14 convictions as an adult, his out-of-state criminal history and the fact that Keith does not have custody of any of his seven children as reasons to set bond at $75,000. Keith is due back in court Monday.
