VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) - An autopsy is expected today to determine what killed Cory Monteith (mahn-TEETH'). The "Glee" star was found dead Saturday in a hotel room in Vancouver, British Columbia. Police say there's no indication of foul play. The 31-year-old Monteith had a history of addiction and checked himself into rehab just last April. Monteith had openly talked about struggling with drugs since he was a teenager. He said he had a serious problem and took just "anything and everything." He told Parade magazine in 2011 that he was "lucky to be alive."
NEW YORK (AP) - Welcome Jenny McCarthy as the next co-host to join "The View." The actress and former Playboy playmate was named Monday to join the panel of the ABC weekday talk show. Barbara Walters, who created "The View" in 1997 and has since served as a co-host, made the widely expected announcement on the air. The 40-year-old McCarthy began her career posing for Playboy, and has since starred in TV sitcoms and appeared in films including "Scary Movie 3." McCarthy will join "The View" as Joy Behar prepares to leave after being on the show since its premiere. A remaining vacancy was created last week by Elisabeth Hasselbeck, who exited to join Fox News Channel. Other co-hosts of "The View" include Sherri Shepherd and Whoopi Goldberg.
PLANO, Texas (AP) - Another setback for Randy Travis. Travis was rushed into surgery late yesterday after suffering a stroke. Doctors at a suburban Dallas hospital operated on Travis to relieve pressure on his brain. His spokesman says Travis remains in critical condition. He adds Travis' family is asking for prayers and support. Travis suffered the stroke while being treated for congestive heart failure. Earlier, doctors said he was showing signs of improvement.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Darius Rucker's surprise invitation to be a member of the Grand Ole Opry is a moment he says he'll always cherish. And now fans will be able to share that experience with him over and over again. The singer who rose to fame as the frontman for South Carolina rockers Hootie & The Blowfish but began to pursue his lifelong passion for country music a few years ago is the video host for one of two new tours that have been added to the Opry's backstage tour line-up. The new tours are the "VIP Behind The Opry Curtain Tour" and the "Opry House Post-Show Tour," which Rucker hosts and where he discusses his induction into the Opry last October.
NEW YORK (AP) - An original Apple computer from 1976 has sold at auction for nearly $388,000. Known as the Apple 1, it was one of the first Apple computers ever built. It sold Monday for $387,750 at a Christie's online-only auction. The auction house did not disclose the name of the buyer. The seller was a retired school psychologist from Sacramento, California. Vintage Apple products have become a hot item since Steve Jobs' death in October 2011. Jobs joined forces with Steve Wozniak to build computer prototypes in a California garage, and Wozniak built the Apple 1. Another Apple 1 was sold in May for a record $671,400 by a German auction house. It broke a record of $640,000 set in November.
LOS ANGELES (AP) - Now you can smell as well as watch "Here Comes Honey Boo Boo." You'll need scratch-and-sniff cards that were given out by TLC and were also in copies of some magazines. Six times during the season premiere on July 17 you'll be asked to scratch one of the cards to get the smell of whatever's on the screen. It could be a hog that was killed on the road, wrestlers or anything else that pops up during the show. However, you won't get to smell Honey Boo Boo or Mama June. None of the cards is linked to a person on the show.
NEW YORK (AP) - Matt Damon isn't bothered by the paparazzi because he says no one's interested in a "middle-aged married guy with four kids." Damon tells Esquire that it helps that he fell in love with a "civilian." Luciana Barroso is a former bartender. They've been married seven years. They have three daughters together and another girl from Barroso's previous relationship. He says he couldn't live like his buddy Brad Pitt, who's constantly hounded by photographers. He says Pitt is jealous of the fact that he can't take his kids to school like Damon can.
NASHVILLE (AP) - Dierks (DURKS) Bentley will use his one day off this month to host a concert in honor of the fallen firefighters in Arizona. Bentley will headline the "Country Cares Concert" in Prescott Valley, Arizona, on July 22. Nineteen members of a firefighting crew were killed there last week. Bentley grew up in Phoenix. He says he wants to help get something rolling to take care of the families of the firefighters. Other performers will be announced soon.
NEW YORK (AP) - The oldest Jonas brother is about to be a dad. A representative for the band says Kevin Jonas and his wife Danielle are expecting their first child. They were married in 2009 and star in the reality show "Married to Jonas."
LONDON (AP) - Elton John says he is grateful to be alive after learning he had been playing European tour dates while suffering from undiagnosed appendicitis. The 66-year-old musician is quoted in The Sun newspaper Wednesday as saying he had struggled through the shows in pain, thinking he had food poisoning. He later learned "I was a ticking time bomb. I guess I could have died at any time." He added: "I feel so lucky and grateful to be alive." On Tuesday John canceled a show in London's Hyde Park and other summer dates while he is treated for an inflamed appendix and surrounding abscess. He is due to have surgery in the next few weeks after treatment with antibiotics. John's new album, "The Diving Board," is due out in September.
