Britney Spears sets up for Vegas performances

LAS VEGAS (AP) - Britney Spears' arrival in Las Vegas for her two-year residency in Sin City came complete with the kind of glitzy entertainment the town's known for. Appearing with her were fire-breathers, contortionists, snake charmers and hunky dancers. A block of the bustling Vegas strip was closed down as a convoy of SUVs carrying Spears and her entourage showed up at the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino. Her run there begins on December 27, just in time for the large crowds expected for New Year's Eve. She plans to do 50 shows each in 2014 and '15. Casino officials hope having Spears around will draw younger customers to the city for the show - and hopefully, to spend the weekend.

Bob Dylan charged in France

PARIS (AP) - Bob Dylan is in legal trouble for "public insult and inciting hate" in France. Charges were filed against him in mid-November for comments he made in Rolling Stone magazine in September 2012. Dylan was asked about race relations in the U.S. and he said, "If you got a slave master or Klan in your blood, blacks can sense that. That stuff lingers to this day. Just like Jews can sense Nazi blood and the Serbs can sense Croatian blood." France has strict laws about hate speech and racist remarks, and Croatian groups in France were upset by Dylan's quote. A lawyer representing Croatians in France says they don't want money but an apology. Dylan's representatives could not be reached for comment. The charges were filed two days before Dylan received a French cultural honor on November 13 but were not publicly confirmed until this week.

"Singin' in the Rain" auction

DALLAS (AP) - The gray wool suit Gene Kelly wore as he danced in a downpour in "Singin' in the Rain" is being auctioned off. It's expected to sell for more than $20,000 this Friday. That would be quite a profit for the owner. A collector bought the suit for ten bucks 43 years ago. He's 72 now and says it's time to "let this stuff go." He's also selling another suit with knickers made of plaid wool that Kelly wore in another scene. He got that one for $75. It's expected to go for $6,000.

LOS ANGELES (AP) - "Fast & Furious" star Paul Walker was drawing parallels before his untimely death between his real-life role as dad to 15-year-old daughter Meadow and his part as an unexpected father to a newborn baby in the upcoming Hurricane Katrina drama "Hours." Walker said in a Nov. 14 interview with The Associated Press to promote the film that he was still finding his way as a father. "Hours" stars Walker and Genesis Rodriguez as a couple who rush to a New Orleans hospital after Rodriguez's character goes into early labor. Walker's character finds himself stranded in an evacuated hospital with his ailing newborn daughter. Walker and his friend died Saturday when the 2005 Porsche Carrera GT they were traveling in smashed into a light pole and tree.
