HASTINGS, Mich. (AP) - Former major league outfielder Chad Curtis has been sentenced to seven to 15 years in prison for inappropriately touching teenage girls. The 44-year-old Curtis was sentenced Thursday in Michigan. Jurors convicted the two-time World Series champion this summer on six counts of criminal sexual conduct. Prosecutors say he touched the girls last year when he was a volunteer weight-room strength trainer at a high school in Barry County, located between Grand Rapids and Lansing. A 16-year-old girl says he inappropriately touched and kissed her, and two 15-year-old girls say Curtis inappropriately touched their buttocks. Between 1992 and 2001, Curtis played for the then-California Angels, Detroit Tigers, Los Angeles Dodgers, Cleveland Indians, New York Yankees and Texas Rangers. He won the two World Series rings with the Yankees.

OSCODA, Mich. (AP) - A popular fishing site at Consumers Energy's hydroelectric plant at Foote Dam on the Au Sable River has reopened following a construction project. The unit of Jackson-based CMS Energy Corp. says the site near Oscoda in Michigan's northeastern Lower Peninsula had been closed since May. The fishing site, which is used in particular during salmon and steelhead runs, is operated under a lease agreement. It reopened Thursday. Consumers Energy says minor construction activity will continue at the site, such as sign installation and cleanup. Foote Dam was completed in 1917. The powerhouse includes three turbine-generators capable of producing about 30 million kilowatt-hours of electricity annually. Consumers Energy and the state Department of Natural Resources announced plans for the project in 2012.

ALLEN PARK, Mich. (AP) - The Detroit Lions have had one of the NFL's best offenses this season, ranking among the league leaders in scoring and yards. The Lions revamped their offensive line in the offseason and their three new starters have given Matthew Stafford time to throw and Reggie Bush room to run. Entering the season, the unit was regarded as a weakness. Through four games, it has been an asset. Guard Rob Sims says the offensive line has proven a lot of people wrong so far, but adds that he and his four linemates still have a long way to go. Detroit plays Sunday on the road against the Green Bay Packers.

Red Wings open with 2-1 win over Sabres

DETROIT (AP) - Pavel Datsyuk and Mikael Samuelsson scored 36 seconds apart midway through the first period and the Detroit Red Wings held on to beat the Buffalo Sabres 2-1 Wednesday night in the season-opener for both teams. Detroit goalie Jimmy Howard turned the puck over, allowing Zemgus Girgensons to score in his NHL debut with 7:24 left in the game. Howard tried to clear the puck from behind his net, but it hit Buffalo's Brian Flynn and popped over the net to set up Girgensons' backhander that pulled the Sabres within a goal. Howard made 19 saves in Detroit's debut in the Eastern Conference, playing an Atlantic Division game against the young Sabres.

Penske inks Keselowski, Miller Lite through '17

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - Penske Racing has signed Brad Keselowski and Miller Lite to contract extensions through the 2017 season. It's the second contract extension for the defending Sprint Cup Series champion in less than two years. Keselowski signed an extension after the 2011 season that ran through next year. That contract was redone to put the driver and sponsor in concurrent deals. Miller Lite is extending a partnership with Roger Penske that spans more than three decades. The beer brand has been the primary sponsor in NASCAR of Penske's flagship No. 2 since 1991. The new contract covers just 24 races instead of the full 36-race schedule Miller Lite had always sponsored. Penske and MillerCoors chief marketing officer Andy England say the 12-race giveback was at Penske's request.

Spartans confident ahead of Iowa game

EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) - Mark Dantonio thinks Michigan State has gained confidence during its bye week, looking ahead to its Big Ten opener at Iowa this weekend. The Spartans lost at Notre Dame headed into its off week. Dantonio says his team spent the past nine days in search of consistency and big plays on offense.  They scored more than one offensive touchdown just once in non-conference play. Quarterback Connor Cook, relieved by Andrew Maxwell on Michigan State's last possession at Notre Dame, will be back in control at Iowa. Defensively, there isn't much more to ask from the nation's top-ranked unit, other than some takeaways that disappeared against the Fighting Irish.

Lions take 22-game skid to Wisconsin

ALLEN PARK, Mich. (AP) - The Detroit Lions ended one long road skid this season and get a shot at halting another this weekend. The Lions have lost 22 straight games in Wisconsin, including 19 straight at Lambeau Field. They head to Green Bay on Sunday with a chance for a third NFC North victory that would keep them atop the division. Detroit ended a 21-game losing streak at Washington last month. That skid stretched to 1935. The Lions' last victory in Green Bay was Dec. 15, 1991 - a few months after rookie guard Larry Warford was born. Kick off Sunday at 1 p.m.
