MDOT's Metro Region ready for winter weather

(ST. CLAIR COUNTY) -- The salt sheds are loaded and county crews are ready for the first accumulating snowfall of the year, according to the Michigan Department of Transportation. The Metro Region serves four counties: Macomb, Oakland, St. Clair and Wayne. The Metro Region winter maintenance budget for this fiscal year is approximately $12 million. More than 145,000 tons of salt have been purchased by the counties, at an average cost of $47.40 per ton. St. Clair County has purchased 1,100 tons at $49.53/ton. Statewide, the total winter maintenance budget is approximately $89 million. More than 500,000 tons of salt have been purchased at an average price of $59.07 per ton.
