Murder charge dropped against Huron County mom

(SHERIDAN TOWNSHIP) -- The second degree murder charge was dropped during a preliminary hearing last Friday for the 29-year old Huron County woman accused in the death of her 23-month old son. Jennifer Lynn Emerick had originally been charged with second-degree murder, involuntary manslaughter, and 1st degree child abuse. The case has been bound over to circuit court. Emerick now faces charges of involuntary manslaughter and second degree child abuse during her circuit court arraignment December 3. Officials say 23-month-old Donavin Cochrane died December 29, 2011, just days before his 2nd birthday. Results from toxicology tests took several months and a pathologist classified the death as a homicide. Emerick remains free on bond.
