Three arrested after high speed chase

(SANILAC COUNTY) -- Sanilac County Sheriff's deputies were taken on a short high-speed chase Wednesday afternoon. Deputy Kevin Nowiski observed a suspicious vehicle in the area of Sheldon and Downington Roads in Moore Township around 1:30 p.m. As he attempted to investigate further, the vehicle took off at a high rate of speed and a pursuit ensued. The vehicle continued south for a short time before stopping in a farm lane on Sheldon Road. A back seat passenger jumped from the vehicle and ran on foot into a wooded area on the property. He was arrested a short time later about a mile from the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle, a 19-year-old Palms man, was arrested for fleeing and eluding and possession of marijuana. The passenger who fled on foot, an 18-year-old Croswell man, was out of jail on bond from an earlier arrest. He was taken into custody for violating the conditions of his bond. Another passenger had been recently released from jail on bond and was arrested for violating his bond and possession of marijuana. A fourth person was released at the scene. The three arrested men were taken to the Sanilac County jail. Their names are being withheld pending arraignment. Sanilac County Sheriff's deputies were assisted by Michigan State Police Troopers at the scene.
