Pickup stikes utility pole in Watertown Township; driver injured

(WATERTOWN TOWNSHIP) -- Sanilac County Sheriff's deputies investigated a one-vehicle accident that happened Friday evening on Townline Road near Cooper Road in Watertown Township. The mishap occurred when a pickup struck a utility pole. The pole snapped and fell onto the pickup while the driver, a 19-year old Imlay City man, was still inside. The driver climbed out of the vehicle against the advice of officers. He was then removed from the field by Sandusky firemen and taken by Sanilac EMS to McKenzie Hospital for treatment of his injuries. DTE Energy workmen removed the pole from the top of the truck. Deputies say the driver was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash and alcohol is believed to be a factor. The incident remains under investigation.
