Sandusky fire fighters battle house fire; homeowner's dogs rescued

(SANDUSKY) -- A single story ranch style home at 365 S. Townline Road, just west of Sandusky, was destroyed by fire Wednesday afternoon. Sandusky Fire Chief Todd Hillman says the homeowners, Chris and Tammy Clements, were not home at the time of the blaze. Their two dogs were rescued and taken to the Town and Country Animal Clinic and treated for smoke inhalation. Chief Hillman says both are doing fine. An attached garage was also saved by firemen, who were dispatched to the scene around 12:30 p.m. Crews found flames coming through the roof of the home upon arrival. The Moore Township and Elk Township Fire Departments assisted the Sandusky firemen. Chief Hillman says the cause remains under investigation.
