28-year old tow truck driver killed in Clyde Township early Friday

(CLYDE TOWNSHIP) — A tow truck operator was killed in a crash Friday morning around 6:30 a.m. on North Road between Krafft and Keewahdin in St. Clair County’s Clyde Township. Sheriff’s deputies say the victim, 28-year old Jason Schultz of Clyde Township, worked for Preferred Towing. He was on the west side of North Road, pulling a vehicle from the ditch when an 18-year old Ford Gratiot man passed the tow truck on the shoulder of the road striking the worker, the cable on the truck, and the Jeep that was being pulled from the ditch. 21-year old Cody Hilliker of Burtchville Township was inside the Jeep. He was transported to McLaren Port Huron Hospital for treatment. Schultz was killed instantly. The crash remains under investigation.
