17 new cases of COVID in Sanilac County

The Sanilac County Health Department and Sanilac Medical Care Facility staff are investigating a Covid19 outbreak within the Sanilac Medical Care Facility.

Authorities are reporting an outbreak of eight cases in residents in the facility along with two staff members. Residents and staff have been tested frequently since the start of the virus earlier this year and staff continues to monitor and control the spread of the virus, as well as providing strict infection control practices to stop the spread.

Emergency Management Director Todd Hillman said the residents have been moved to an out-of-county facility while the employees are self-quarantined at their homes.

Hillman said last Monday’s report showed 152 cases in the county while this week’s report has 187 cases, with 36 active cases. 17 of the new cases were reported over the weekend.

The southeast portion of Sanilac County continues to have the highest number of cases sine the start of the virus with 60 cases. The southwest quadrant has had 53 cases while there have been 42 in the northwest part and 32 in the northeast section.

Authorities say in general, people are becoming lax with taking precautions and are encouraging everyone to wear their masks, wash their hands and social distance.
