Suspect arraigned in Lexington home invasion/arson case -- Monday, March 8 2010

(LEXINGTON) -- Sanilac County Sheriff Garry Biniecki says 45-year old Montgomery Prichard of Lexington Township was arraigned Sunday on six felony counts in connection with two fires that occurred on Friday evening. An off-duty Sanilac County Sheriff's deputy observed smoke coming from a residence at 4358 South Lakeshore Road. Lexington firefighters, as well as Sheriff's deputies, and Lexington Police were dispatched to the scene. Police found that the back door of the residence had been forced open and followed footprints to a residence at 4484 South Lakeshore Road. Officers, with the assistance of a police dog, entered the residence. After several verbal attempts to get Prichard to exit failed, K-9 Adam located him in an upstairs closet. While arresting Prichard, officers determined that the upstairs above them was also on fire. Croswell and Port Sanilac firefighters were dispatched to assist with the second blaze. A Port Sanilac Fireman was treated for an elbow injury and released from Port Huron Hospital. Prichard faces charges of arson, home invasion, larceny in a building, and assaulting, resisting and obstructing an officer. Bond was set at $100,000. His preliminary exam is scheduled for March 16th in Sanilac County District Court.
