Check Smoke Alarms during the Change to Daylight Savings Time -- Friday, March 12 2010

(AREA) -- Residents are being reminded to change the batteries in their smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors when setting clocks ahead one hour on Saturday. According to State Fire Marshal Ronald Farr, homeowners should test their smoke alarms monthly, change the batteries once a year, and replace all smoke detectors with a new one every 10-years. The Consumer Product Safety Commission also recommends that a family with children conduct a fire drill at night at least twice a year to refresh everyone on an escape plan.
