Port Huron woman struck by a car and killed -- Wednesday, July 28 2010

(PORT HURON TOWNSHIP) -- Authorities say a 32-year old Port Huron woman was killed after being struck by a car shortly after midnight Tuesday on 24th Street near Minnie in Port Huron Township. St. Clair County Sheriff deputies say a 26-year old Fort Gratiot man was driving home from work when he noticed something lying in the roadway. The man told deputies that he swerved, but not in time. When he stopped he found the woman in the roadway with two bags of clothes. The victim, identified as Dorothy Rose Smith, was pronounced dead at Mercy Hospital. Deputies say alcohol was not a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation. The name of the driver has not been released.
