(HURON COUNTY) -- A 21-year old Cass City man remains jailed in Huron County after allegedly stealing a vehicle from a residence in Pigeon early Wednesday morning. Sheriff Kelly Hanson says deputies were sent to 112 James Street in Pigeon around 1 a.m. to learn that the intoxicated suspect had decided that he wanted to leave the residence and took the homeowners 1998 Ford Explorer. The suspect claimed that he was on probation in Tuscola County and needed to be home at a certain time. During the investigation, the Michigan State Police came across power tools in the roadway near Michigan Ave. and James Street. A fence nearby had also been driven through. The homeowner confirmed that power tools were located in the back of her vehicle and that there was a faulty back latch. The suspect then called the homeowner stating that he didn't know where he was. He agreed to call 9-1-1 in an effort to pinpoint his location. Deputies were able to locate the suspect, Christopher Garrett, in the area of M-25 and M-142 in Fairhaven Township, hiding in the ditch. He was arraigned on a felony charge of unlawfully driving an automobile, operating while intoxicated, and driving while license suspended. Bond was set at $5,000 or 10% cash.
