(CROSWELL) -- The former Cros-Lex Middle School Secretary accused of embezzling more than $40,000 from student fundraisers over a 3-year period has been sentenced. 39-year old Cheryl Francis plead no contest to one count of embezzling more than $1,000, but less than $20,000 back in October after reaching a plea deal with prosecutors. Francis was sentenced Monday in Sanilac County Circuit Court to 90 days in jail and 2-years probation. She began serving the 60 days in jail on Friday. The remaining 30 days will be done through community service. The Croswell woman faced a maximum 5-years in prison and or a $10,000 fine in the case. Two other counts of embezzling were dismissed at sentencing.
