Marlette Twp. man receives year in jail for fatal sleepover shooting

(MARLETTE TOWNSHIP) -- An ex-convict has received a one-year jail sentence on a firearms charge after his son accidentally shot an 11-year-old friend to death during a sleepover at their home in Marlette Township. Sanilac County Circuit Judge Donald Teeple issued the sentence Wednesday for the man, who pleaded guilty May 5 to being a felon in possession of a firearm and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. 11-year old Tyler Dunn died November 23 from a rifle shot in the home on Howard Road where the father and son lived. Authorities say no adult was home at the time of the shooting. The 12-year-old boy pleaded guilty to reckless discharge of a firearm and was sentenced May 6 to probation in the home of his mother until age 19.
