Berrien Springs man killed in Minden Township crash

(MINDEN TOWNSHIP) -- One person was killed and another seriously injured in a single vehicle accident that happened in Minden Township early Saturday morning. Sanilac County Sheriff's deputies say that a truck driven by an 18-year old Ubly man was traveling north on Maurer Road, lost control and entered a ditch on the east side of the roadway. The vehicle traveled an additional 600 to 700 feet in the ditch before striking several trees. The driver was taken to Deckerville Community Hospital for treatment of injuries, while 18-year old Charles Peasley of Berrien Springs, a passenger in the truck, died as a result of injuries sustained in the accident. Deputies say that both airbags were deployed following the crash. Speed and alcohol are believed to be factors in the mishap. The name of the driver has not been released pending further investigation and possible charges.
