(RICHMOND TOWNSHIP) -- A natural gas supply line exploded Tuesday afternoon in a northern Macomb County field injuring two men. The Macomb County Sheriff's Department says a crew from Sanilac Drain and Tile Company was laying the drain tile in a field near Place Road south of 33 Mile in Richmond Township when the line ruptured shortly before 1 p.m. The men, ages 52 and 23, were listed in stable condition Tuesday. The line belongs to Bluewater Gas Storage and has since been capped. Officials say the gas line's built-in safety valves automatically activated and shut off the leak. An excavator was destroyed in the explosion. No other injuries or damage to property were reported.
