(AREA) -- The Michigan State Police says a total of 586 pounds of prescription drugs were collected at MSP posts across the state during the 8th National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day Saturday, April 26. The Michigan State Police partnered with the Drug Enforcement Administration and other local law enforcement agencies for the event, which provides a safe, convenient and responsible venue for citizens to dispose of unwanted and unused prescription drugs. Locally, the Caro Post collected 17 pounds of pills and the Lapeer Post collected 28 pounds. The St. Clair County Sheriff's Department collected a total of 125 pounds of pills. The pills will be turned over to the DEA and incinerated.
