(LEXINGTON TOWNSHIP) -- A 59-year old Port Sanilac man was killed early Friday morning around 6 a.m. while driving his motorcycle on E. Peck Road in Lexington Township. Sanilac County Sheriff Garry Biniecki says the initial investigation showed that the victim, William Hartnup, Jr., was traveling west in the 5400 block of E. Peck Road, just east of Wildcat Road when he was struck by a Dodge Ram pickup truck, also traveling west. The driver of the pickup, 37-year old Troy Herbert of Lexington, stated that due to low light conditions and the motorcycle being on the west side of the hill, he did not see the motorcycle in time to avoid a crash. Hartnup was pronounced dead at the scene. Herbert refused treatment. Deputies say that Herbert was wearing his seat belt and Hartnup was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor. The incident remains under investigation. The Sanilac County Sheriff's Office Accident Investigation Team was assisted by Croswell Police, Fire and EMS.
