(GREENLEAF TOWNSHIP) -- Stolen firearms that were taken from Wild John's Party Store in Greenleaf Township back on August 15 were returned last week. The owner of the party store, located at 6348 N. Van Dyke Road, contacted the Sanilac County Sheriff's Department shortly after 4:30 a.m. Saturday after finding the stolen firearms and ammunition placed at the door step. The store operates by selling firearms, while also operating as a gas station and convenience store. According to Detective/Sgt. Jim Johnson, approximately 22 of the more than 30 weapons stolen were returned along with some gun cases and ammunition. Making sure the owner found the hand guns and high powered rifles, the individual left a corn trail by retrieving a bag of shelled corn from the front of the store and pouring it out leading to the back door where the loot was left. Sanilac County investigators, along with Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms Agents, are turning up the heat after one of the stolen handguns was recently found in the Utica area.
Sanilac County Sheriff Garry Biniecki stated, "We are aggressively seeking the individual that turned these firearms in, for questioning. As other stolen guns start to surface, it is important to remember that suspects are potentially liable for crimes committed with the stolen guns. ATF Agents, having more resources to dedicate to this case, along with my Detective Bureau, will go a long way as the investigation continues."
