(SANDUSKY) -- The Sanilac County Board of Commissioners and Finance Administration Committee met Tuesday afternoon. Commissioners re-appointed Jim Bowerman, Paul Wheeler, and Roger Ballard to the county's Parks and Recreation Board. Dean Berden was appointed to the Sanilac County Health Board. Commissioners also passed a resolution honoring Ethan Tubbs for his accomplishments as an Eagle Scout. Ethan has earned a total of 21 merit badges. He also led a landscaping project at Sandusky High School with 27 volunteers and 254 hours of labor. In other business, commissioners authorized Sanilac County Veteran's Affairs to purchase 4,320 flags at a cost not to exceed $2,894.40, as well as 390 markers at a cost not to exceed $1,950.
Finance and Administration Committee members approved the placing of the 9-1-1 millage renewal on the August primary ballot. The millage renewal is estimated to be about $295,000, most of which will be used for equipment upgrades in the county's 911 center. The board also approved Sheriff Garry Biniecki's request to award Thumb Correctional Food Service a three year contract to provide food to the county jail. Of the six bids that the Sheriff's Department received, Thumb Correctional Food Service came in at the highest at $308,515.25. Sheriff Biniecki said that the company's history with the jail has proven to be valuable enough to justify paying the extra cost. The Sanilac County Board of Commissioners and Finance Administration Committee meet again on Tuesday, April 15 at 1 p.m. in the Commissioner's chambers.
