(SANILAC COUNTY) -- March is Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month. On March 6, Sanilac County Community Mental Health recognized individuals, organizations and businesses during a luncheon for their support to people with developmental disabilities. Kellie Lehman was honored as the Community Mental Health Volunteer of the Year. Nona Trepkowski, representing Trelleborg, accepted an award for her assistance to CMH staff and the Chop Shop's confidential shredding program during a time when their equipment needs were great. Claudia Maedel, Sanilac County Public Guardian, was recognized for going above and beyond her responsibilities as a public guardian to support and advocate for the people she serves. Public Relations Coordinator at McKenzie Health System, Nina Barnett, accepted an award on behalf of the hospital for their support of the Chop Shop recycling program. Roger Ballard, representing the Sanilac County Parks Board, was thanked for the work of the Parks Board in making the county parks handicap accessible. Self-Serve Lumber was recognized for allowing Michigan Rehabilitation Services to bring Community Mental Health consumers into their business to conduct assessments of their work skills.
