(HARBOR BEACH) -- Three students from Harbor Beach Middle School have been named winners in the 45th Annual America & Me Essay Contest, sponsored by Farm Bureau Insurance. Victoria Pawlowski took first, Kaira Ocomen earned second and Kaylin Cady placed third. All three received award certificates for their achievement. Victoria's first place essay now advances to the state level competition where the top ten in the state will be selected. Those winners will be announced in April and each student will receive a plaque, medal, and a $1,000 cash prize. The top ten will also be honored at a banquet in Lansing, meet with Michigan's top governmental leaders, and be guests at a Lansing Lugnuts minor league baseball game. Several thousand eighth grade students from nearly 450 Michigan schools participated in this year's America & Me Essay Contest. The topic was "My Personal Michigan Hero."
