(LAPEER) -- The City of Lapeer is one of 14 communities in the state receiving funding for public infrastructure improvements. The $7.6 million in funding through the Michigan Economic Development Corporation was announced this week. Governor Rick Snyder says the Downtown Infrastructure Grants will improve downtowns and spur additional economic growth in the surrounding area. The City of Lapeer will receive $749,999 for street, streetscape, and infrastructure improvements and provide a $331,129 match. The projects must be completed by December 31, 2014. The Michigan Strategic Fund received a total of 45 applications requesting a total of $18 million.
