(TUSCOLA COUNTY) -- The Tuscola County Farm Bureau will be awarded the Michigan Farm Bureau's Excellence in Grassroots Lobbying Award during the MFB's 2014 Lansing Legislative Seminar February 12. Every year county Farm Bureau's work to educate and inform local, state and federal officials about issues impacting the agriculture industry. Tuscola County Farm Bureau leaders approved an aggressive program of work in early 2013, outlining 10 specific goals for the year on behalf of its 1,800 local members. Tuscola members actively lobbied for policies pertaining to wildlife management, wetlands, the farm bill, immigration and MISS DIG. Congressional leaders including Congresswoman Candice Miller and Congressman Dan Kildee have experienced first-hand what Thumb producers deal with on a day-to-day basis through tours, including a dairy farm with robotic milkers, an ethanol plant, two sugar beet planting operations and an organic processing facility. As the winner of the 2013 Excellence in Grassroots Lobbying Award, Tuscola County Farm Bureau earns a $500 grant for use toward future lobbying activities.
