(MINDEN TOWNSHIP) -- Sanilac County Sheriff's deputies patrolling the snowmobile trails in the county Saturday afternoon witnessed a snowmobile accident around 3 p.m. in Minden Township. Sheriff Garry Biniecki says a DNR officer had turned his snowmobile around and attempted to catch up to a separate group of snowmobiles. As he continued north, the DNR officer entered an icy patch in the field just off of the trail. The snowmobile began to slide and the officer lost control. As he attempted to regain control, the snowmobile began to roll and he was thrown from the machine. The snowmobile continued to roll multiple times before coming to rest on its skies. The DNR officer was treated for his injuries by Sheriff's deputies at the scene and was later transported to Cass City Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. No other snowmobiles were involved in the crash.
