(AREA) -- The Thumb Area Quiz Bowl League recently started its 15th year of offering academic tournaments. There are currently 32 teams, 16 coaches, and about 250 students in grades 5-12 taking part. The Winter 2014 High School League recently held two after-school tournaments at Sandusky and North Branch. Marlette's A team was victorious at both, extending their winning record from the fall league to include 6 out of 7 wins at area tournaments. Twenty high school quiz bowl teams are taking part in weekly local tournaments in January, February, and March with qualifying teams taking part in the State of Michigan High School Class C/D Championship at Michigan State University in April. This week's high school tournament is Thursday at Bad Axe High School. January's monthly middle school tournament was held January 13 at Sandusky Schools. The Sandusky A team took first place with the Brown City A team as runner-up. Twelve teams participated including CPS, Dryden, and Marlette. The February middle school tournament will be held February 11 at Brown City Elementary.
