(SANILAC COUNTY) -- Local farmer, Jim Meissner, was honored during the 78th Annual Sanilac County Dairy Banquet last weekend in Deckerville. Meissner received the Lifetime Achievement Award, which recognizes dairy producers who have given a lifetime of promoting and producing for the Sanilac County dairy industry. Jim and his wife Dorothy own their farm in Delaware Township where they have more than 700 cows and farm 3,000 acres. They took over the family farm from Jim's father, Clarence in 1981. Several other awards were presented last Saturday. The High County Herd Award went to Steve Osentoski, who also earn the Improvement Award for Milk and Fat. The 2013 Top Herd Quality Award was given to Timothy Mater. The first-runner up was Steven Alexander. The High Lifetime Cow Award went to Chris and Daniell Osentoski.
