(AREA) -- Congresswoman Candice Miller calls the U.S. House of Representatives passage of the 2014 Omnibus Appropriations Bill a victory. The legislation passed with strong bipartisan support 359-67 Wednesday. The measure provides responsible funding for every aspect of the federal government, from national defense, transportation, and education. The bill contains a reduction of discretionary spending to $191 billion below the President's vision for Fiscal Year 2014 in his first budget request back in 2009. Congresswoman Miller says the measure has a positive impact on Michigan. The bill restores the full funding of the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative, which is dedicated to the health and viability of the Great Lakes and rivers. Also included in the overall appropriations measure is funding for the Harbor Maintenance Trust Fund to maintain and improve the area's harbors and waterways. The legislation now heads to the Senate for consideration.
