(SANDUSKY) -- Congresswoman Candice Miller was handed the ceremonial scissors Thursday afternoon during a special ribbon cutting at the Sandusky Municipal Airport. The event celebrated the airport's recent completion of construction improvements, including the runway expansion. The congresswoman secured over $700,000 for the project back in 2009 and construction got underway this spring. Congresswoman Miller says the federal funding has been used effectively. The purpose of the improvement is to help attract larger aircraft and better facilitate the economic needs of the area. Along with the new runway expansion, projects including a new terminal, additional hangars and the demolition of the old hangars are planned, which is part of plan to promote growth in the county.
