(TUSCOLA COUNTY) -- The final inspection is complete for the Tuscola County jail's remodeling project, which added a total of 11 new beds to the facility, bringing the total number to 97. Tuscola County Sheriff Lee Teschendorf says the project will ease overcrowding and save taxpayer dollars by housing more inmates locally. Work started during the summer and the additional beds are expected to save approximately $90,000 a year in housing out inmates and transportation costs. Reports say the original section of the jail was built in 1965 with several remodels through the years. The most recent addition to the building was done in 1996.
